HERE AMONG THE TREES

Creative documentary work telling the story of an outdoor school called The Awen Project. This school was set up as an alternative to mainstream education to model a learning environment for children based on ideas of democracy and imagination with climate issues at the heart of its learning. It works with educationalists, social entrepreneurs, mathematicians and professionals from arts, sciences and business to nurture the next generation who will be charged with managing the effects of the climate crisis. Some of the children spoke recently at an international climate meeting.

The children cleaned up a forest, transforming epic piles of litter into ethereal sculptures of monsters in the trees for open exhibition to reflect on human relationships with nature. This year, the children are starting to build more permanent and sustainable structures to learn in. The Awen Project also seeks to support the children in creating business plans that could generate resources to create a self-sustained, free-to-attend schooling model.
