Food Bank is the latest in a series of documentary photography projects from Merseyside based photographer, Liam Jones. As a full-time care assistant, Jones bases the majority of his work around his job and family life.
In this ongoing series, he focuses his attention to Merseyside Youth Association’s food bank, a food bank aimed at people under the age of 25 who are in crisis. Food banks have now been on the rise in the UK for the last couple of years. Between 1st April 2016 and 31st March 2017, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,182,954 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis compared to 1,109,309 in 2015-16. Of this number, 436,938 went to children. The project so far captures a striking array of portraits and items given to people using the food bank. Liam will be working on this project throughout 2018.
