Kat Dippers’ Quarters
June 4, 2018

Through growing up in a military family, Kat Dipper moved around frequently and began taking photos throughout her childhood as a way of documenting her current surroundings before moving again. Kats practice centres around place, memory and time. Within her final university project, Kat returns to and documents the temporary military housing she grew up in throughout her childhood

Travelling with her father, the reason for her moving, she responds to each place differently. Some sites remain within memory, some are unfamiliar and some have been leveled to the ground. The series observes the passing of time disrupting memory, presenting both an attachment and detachment between herself and her past homes, and is an investigation into the notion that we revisit the past by breaking into it.
